Teams in Transition: Coaching Through Change and Uncertainty
Context
A senior leadership team was navigating a merger — strategically sound, well-communicated, yet emotionally fragmented. As one leader put it,
“We’ve been told this merger is good for growth. But honestly? Everyone’s walking on eggshells. It’s like we’re all strangers again.”
Despite clarity on what to do, the team struggled with how to connect through uncertainty with respect to change.
Challenge
The transition had triggered unspoken anxieties and role insecurity. People were polite but distant — focused on survival (reactive) rather than collaboration and also accepting the new reality.
Approach
Using DTA, the Human OS coaches created space for reflection and emotional coherence. Through guided conversations, the team learned to:
Name and normalise their emotions around change.
Recognise how fear and defensiveness shaped their interactions.
Rebuild trust through open, non-judgmental dialogue.
OutcomeThe shift was tangible.
Team members began speaking from authenticity instead of authority. Leaders listened without defending. Over time, the group moved from guarded silence to mutual trust — finding a new rhythm that wasn’t imposed from the top, but co-created together.
Insight
In times of change, people don’t just need clarity of goals — they need coherence of meaning.
Coaching helps teams find that centre, where stability and growth can coexist.
